Today I finished Claymore. All the 27 volumes. Yeah I read about 10 volumes today alone. I have to say it exceeded my expectations in every possible way. The story starts slow, almost boring, there’s a monster attacking a village, silver eyed women are the only ones who can slay the monsters because they fused with it, ect. But if you stick around for about 8-10 volumes, the story by then has laid out so much depths and layers, that you will most likely find yourself thinking about it all day long. As for it’s greatest strength, I can’t decide if it’s the characters or the greater world building. Each character is unique, complex and has it’s full personality. My favorite ones are Galatea, Dietrich and Raki. The biggest weakness of this book for me is the art style. While the artist is clearly talented, I would not have picked this book had I not bought the box set beforehand. Because of it’s slow pace and of it’s art style.
Still, I think this is among the best mangas I read yet, next to Blue Lock and One Punch Man. I would give it a 9.5/10.
